# The dashboard

> What each screen of a site is for, what every number on the Overview means, and how the date range, the comparison and the cards work.

This page walks through the dashboard of a site, so you can read every number on the Overview and know which screen answers which question.

## The screens of a site

| Screen | What it is for |
| --- | --- |
| Overview | The headline numbers, the main chart and the breakdown cards. |
| Realtime | Who is on the site right now. See [Realtime](/docs/realtime). |
| Events | The custom events you send, as a log and as trends. See [custom events](/docs/custom-events). |
| Funnels | How many visitors get through a path of steps. See [funnels](/docs/funnels). |
| Revenue | Orders and where the buyers came from. See [revenue](/docs/revenue). |
| Campaigns | Visits that arrived with UTM tags. See [campaigns](/docs/campaigns). |
| Performance | How fast your pages load for real visitors. See [web vitals](/docs/web-vitals). |
| Store, Ads, Creatives, Profit and Customers | The Store group of the sidebar: ad spend, the ads that earned sales, profit and new customers. See [store summary](/docs/store-summary). |
| Settings | See [managing a site](/docs/site-settings). |

## The tiles

The tiles at the top of the Overview hold the totals for the range you picked.

| Tile | What it counts |
| --- | --- |
| Visitors | People who visited. Each person is counted once per day. |
| Visits | Sessions. A visit ends after 30 minutes without activity. |
| Views | Pages loaded, page changes inside a single-page app included. |
| Bounce rate | The share of visits that viewed only one page. |
| Session time | The average time between the first and the last page of a visit. A visit with one page counts as zero. |
| Revenue | Revenue in the range, with refunds taken off, and the number of orders. |
| Revenue per visitor | The amount on the Revenue tile divided by the visitors. |
| Conversion rate | Visitors who completed any conversion goal, divided by all visitors. A visitor counts when the goal was reached on the same day as the visit. |

> [!IMPORTANT]
> Visitors over several days are the sum of the daily counts, not one number with repeat visitors taken out. This tile counts a visitor for one day only, also on a site that has [Remember returning visitors](/docs/returning-visitors) on: the returning numbers live on the Visitors page. Someone who comes back on three different days adds three to the Visitors tile. See [privacy: cookieless by default](/docs/privacy).

The last three tiles are not always there. The two revenue tiles show on a site that has had an order. That order can come from a connected Shopify store: see [connect Shopify](/docs/connect-shopify). The Conversion rate tile shows once the site has a [conversion goal](/docs/conversion-goals) switched on.

Each tile also shows the change against the comparison period. The Revenue tile shows the number of orders there instead, and its change is in the tooltip. Hover a tile, or move keyboard focus to it, to read the exact figure and both periods.

A site with goals has a Conversion selector in the top bar. Pick a goal there and the whole page narrows to the visitors who reached it.

## The main chart

Click a tile and the chart below plots that number over time. The chart has two views.

- **Trend** draws the selected number across the range: minutes or hours for a short range, days, weeks or months for a long one. The comparison period is a dashed line. Under the chart a short line splits the visitors into those with a single visit and those with more than one.
- **Conversion peak** shows at which hour of the day conversions happen, for all days together or for one weekday. On a site without goals it counts every custom event instead. Hours are in the time zone of the site.

## The date range and the comparison

The range menu in the top bar sets the period for the whole page. Its choices are below, and a custom range takes any two dates:

- Today
- Yesterday
- Last 30 minutes
- Last 12 hours
- Last 24 hours
- This week
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Last 60 days
- Last 90 days
- Month to date
- Year to date
- Last 12 months
- All time

Days are days in the time zone of the site, not of your computer. Weeks start on Monday. A range such as the last seven days includes today.

The comparison menu next to it picks what the range is measured against: the previous period, the previous week, month, quarter or year, a custom range, or no comparison. A day that is half over is compared with the first half of the earlier day. "All time" has nothing earlier to compare with.

The range, the comparison and the selected tile are part of the address of the page, so a teammate who opens a copied address sees the same view.

## The breakdown cards

Below the chart, most cards rank one kind of thing by visitors. The tabs of a card switch what it ranks.

| Card | Tabs |
| --- | --- |
| Pages | Top, Entered (where visits began), Exited (where they ended) and 404s (missing pages and the page that most often linked to them). |
| Sources | Referrers, Channels, AI (assistants and AI search tools), Hostnames and Bots. |
| Locations | Countries, Regions and Cities. |
| Devices | Browsers, OS and Devices. |
| Events | Count, Share and Properties of your custom events. |
| Search keywords | Searches that led to your site. |

A card shows its first rows. Its expand button opens the full list, up to 1,000 rows, with a search box and a choice of sort order. Click a row of a page, source, location or device to filter the whole page to it. Rows of the 404s and Bots tabs and of Search keywords are never a filter. See [filters and saved segments](/docs/filters-and-segments).

- Locations are approximate. No IP address is stored.
- The Bots tab lists automated requests that were filtered out and never counted. Filters do not apply to it. See [bot filtering](/docs/bot-filtering).
- The Search keywords card is empty for every site today: Google Search Console is not connected. See [what works today](/docs/status).

## Chart notes

A chart note is a short label pinned to a day, such as the day a new pricing page went live. Days with a note carry a marker on the trend chart.

To write one, click a point on the trend and use the notes button in the pinned tooltip. Pick a colour and type a label of up to 60 characters. A day holds up to 5 notes and a site up to 500. The button is there when the chart draws one point per day.

Owners and Admins write, edit and delete notes. Everyone who can see the site sees them, people who open a [shared dashboard](/docs/shared-dashboards) included.

## All your sites on one page

The home page of a workspace, titled Sites, lists every site as a card with its visitors for the chosen range, the change against the period before and the number of people online now. The cards are ranked by visitors.

For Owners and Admins a row of tiles above the cards adds all sites together: Visitors, Visits, Views, Bounce rate and Session time, plus Revenue when there are orders. Visitors are a plain sum, so a person who visits two of your sites counts on each. Revenue is shown in the currency with the most orders.

A Viewer sees the cards of the sites they were given and no combined tiles.
