# Your account and signing in

> Create an account, sign in, change your name, email address or password, manage your sessions, and delete a workspace or your account.

This page covers your own account in Clear Saga: how to sign up and sign in, how to change your details, what to do about a forgotten password today, and how to delete a workspace or the account itself.

Create an account at [/signup](/signup) with your name, your email address and a password of 8 to 128 characters. You sign in with the email address and the password. There is no sign-in through another service and no second sign-in step.

A new account comes with a workspace of its own, and you are its owner. A trial starts once your first site records a visit. See [plans, usage and limits](/docs/plans-and-usage).

Your email address is not checked when you sign up: no confirmation message is involved. Take care to type it correctly, because it is the name you sign in with.

### When sign-ups are closed

Whoever runs a deployment of Clear Saga can close sign-ups. The sign-up page then says so, and an account can be created in two cases only:

- You open an invitation link and sign up with the address the invitation was made for. See [team and roles](/docs/team-and-roles).
- The person who runs the deployment has put your address on its short list of allowed addresses.

Signing in, and everything else on this page, works the same whether sign-ups are open or closed.

## Sign in and sign out

Sign in at [/login](/login). A session stays valid for up to 30 days, and using the app extends it. After that you sign in again. To sign out, open the menu on your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose "Sign out".

Several sign-in tries within a few seconds are refused for a moment. Wait a little and try again.

## A forgotten password

> [!WARNING]
> The password reset email is not sent yet. The "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in page leads to a form that accepts your address and writes the message with its reset link, but the message is only stored and never reaches an inbox. See [what works today](/docs/status).

What you can do today:

- **If you are still signed in somewhere,** stay signed in on that device. Changing the password under Settings, Account asks for the current one, so it does not help here, but the session keeps working until it expires.
- **Ask the person who runs the deployment.** The reset message is stored in the product's database with its link. Someone with access to that database can read the link and pass it to you. The link works once and expires after an hour, so ask them first and request the reset when they are ready.
- **If nobody can do that, the account cannot be recovered today.** An owner of a workspace has no way to reset another member's password.

Once you have a working link, it opens a page where you set a new password. Setting it signs out every session of the account.

Until email delivery is connected, keep your password in a password manager.

## Change your name

Open Settings, Account. Under Profile, change your name and save. The name is shown in member lists and in the invitations you create.

## Change your email address

Under "Email address" on the same screen, enter the new address and your current password, then choose "Send confirmation link".

The change is not made at once. A confirmation link is created for the new address, and your address stays the old one until that link is opened. Because email is not sent yet, the link never arrives, so in practice an email address cannot be changed today without someone reading the link out of the stored message, as with a reset. See [what works today](/docs/status).

You can start 3 such changes an hour.

## Change your password

Under Password, enter your current password and the new one twice. The new password has to differ from the current one and be 8 to 128 characters long.

Changing the password signs out every other session of your account. The one you are using stays signed in.

The current password is asked for on three changes: a new email address, a new password and deleting the account. After 5 wrong passwords within 10 minutes, further tries are refused until that time has passed. A correct password does not count.

## Sessions

The Sessions section lists where your account is signed in right now: the browser and system, the IP address the session signed in from, and the day it started. The one you are using is marked "This device".

- To end one of the other sessions, open the menu of its row and choose "Sign out".
- To end all the others at once, choose "Sign out everywhere else". Those devices have to sign in again.

If you think someone else has your password, change it: that ends the other sessions by itself.

## Theme

Under Appearance you choose a light theme, a dark theme, or whatever your system is set to. The same choice is in the menu on your name in the sidebar. It is saved in the browser and not in your account, so another device keeps its own setting. The switch for interface sounds works the same way.

## Leave a workspace

If you were invited to a workspace as an admin or a viewer, you can leave it under Settings, Members. Your own account and your own workspace are not touched. [Team and roles](/docs/team-and-roles) explains what you lose and how to come back.

## Delete a workspace

Only the owner can delete a workspace, under Settings, Workspace.

Deleting a workspace deletes every site in it with all of its statistics, for every member, and then the workspace itself. This cannot be undone. To confirm, you type a phrase the screen shows you, which contains the name of the workspace.

Afterwards you work in another workspace you belong to. If you belong to none, you get a new, empty workspace of your own the next time you open the app.

To delete one site and keep the workspace, see [managing a site](/docs/site-settings).

## Delete your account

At the bottom of Settings, Account is "Delete account". It removes:

- your account and all of its sessions,
- your membership of every workspace you were invited to,
- the tokens you created,
- the workspace you own.

The workspace you own has to be empty first: no sites and no other members. Delete each site in its settings and remove each member, then come back. If you are working in someone else's workspace at that moment, the screen offers to switch to your own.

To confirm, you type your email address and enter your current password. Deleting an account cannot be undone.

Workspaces you were only a member of carry on without you.
